North Oconee High School North Oconee Goes to Nationals

August 17, 2018

First-time competitor and Region 3 Officer, Zubaida Adres and North Oconee’s VP of Public Relations, Katy Atkins, attended their first National Leadership Conference in Atlanta, GA. While the Officers were at NLC, they got to participate in an 8-mile long bike ride, going through all of Atlanta’s historic landmarks and neighborhoods. They also got an exciting exclusive behind the scenes tour of the Children’s Museum of Atlanta and got their thrills going on all the roller coasters at Six Flags over Georgia. Zubaida Adres competed in the STAR Event “Promote and Publicize FCCLA” and received Gold. According to Zubaida, “Competing in a STAR Event helped me develop as a leader, presenter, and individual. I learned to set goals for myself and achieve them. That is what STAR Events did for me, and what I know they can do for all members!” Both Officers are excited to bring ideas from the National Programs Scavenger Hunt and from the various workshops they attended back to their Officer Team. Katy Atkins looks back on the experience and said, “We both learned so much while at NLC! I am so excited to see how we put all of these new ideas back into our community. It was truly the most incredible and eye-opening experience that I have ever been a part of, and I cannot wait to attend 2019 NLC!”
