Johnson County FCCLA had some great activities supporting Teen Violence Awareness month in February. They enjoyed a guest speaker who worked with a local domestic violence shelter. She shared some alarming situations she had worked with and personal stories of her own struggles with domestic violence. The students took a teen dating violence survey which stimulated some very interesting and knowledgeable conversations about how to deal with teen violence. My students were astonished that many of their own relationships reflected some characteristics which could result in abusive relationships. My students also participated in a self defense class which focused on safety strategies, and physical techniques that enable someone to successfully escape, resist, and survive violent attacks
