Buford High School Cookies and Cocoa for 5k for CHOA

February 01, 2020

Buford High School’s FCCLA, Skills USA, FBLA, DECA, Key Club, and NHS clubs came together to run for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. The Buford community came out in full force in support of the Cookies and Cocoa 5K. 259 people signed up to participate in the 5k and 50 volunteers were at the race to support CHOA. The race course was contained on the Buford High School campus making it perfect for a family-run. The relatively flat course was perfect for families and people of all ages. The runners were treated to a variety of cookies, coffee, and cocoa following the race. Awards were given to the various age groups of the race. The combined efforts of these clubs raised more than $8000 for CHOA. FCCLA students MaKenzie Curry (Jr), Kathryn Sterritt (Fr), and Abby Wood (Fr) helped begin the project by asking local businesses and corporations to sponsor our 5k. The students helped gain support from IDC Fire and Water Restoration (corporate sponsor), UPS Foundation (corporate sponsor), Signarama, North Gwinnett Voice, Metal Building Associates, Barebones Steakhouse, and D1 Training. We hope to make this an annual event.
