Houston County High School Houston County High School FCCLA Students Celebrate a Season of Wins

February 15, 2022

This fall, Houston County High School students have been actively involved in conferences and competitions held on the state and national level of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA). During the month of November, students from Houston County High School have been able to take their leadership to the next level by participating in conferences, attending leadership workshops, engaging in youth networking sessions, advocating for FCCLA and Family and Consumer Sciences with elected officials, and more as students have participated in the National Fall Conference, Capitol Leadership, and the State Fall Leadership Conference.

These conferences that HCHS FCCLA members have participated in have allowed students to expand their leadership skills, explore opportunities for growth, and expand their potential. HCHS is very proud of the following students who have excelled in competitions at both the FCCLA National and State Fall Conferences:

  • Hannah Koppel – 1st in the Nation in Nutrition Challenge Skill Demonstration Event
  • Andy Lu – 2nd in the Nation in FCCLA Knowledge Challenge
  • Collin Key and Hannah Koppel – Georgia FCCLA Statesman Award Recipients
  • Elizabeth Kirkland – 3rd in the State in Fashion Stylist Competition

Additionally, the following HCHS FCCLA members have qualified to advance as an Elite Eight Knowledge Bowl Team: Maggie Duke, Collin Key, Hannah Koppel, and Andy Lu. These students will move on to compete in the final State Knowledge Bowl Rounds which will take place in March at the State Leadership Conference in Athens.
