Houston County High School Use Your Zoodle

January 06, 2020

Houston County High School FCCLA members had a special FCCLA enrichment opportunity where they were able to use their "zoodle" to learn about the health benefits of consuming vegetables, such as squash, in their diet. FCCLA members were connected to the components of living a healthy lifestyle through the FCCLA Student Body National Program and the Georgia Organic's Oh, My Squash! Program throughout several enrichment and learning sessions. Not only did students learn important health and nutrition facts about squash and other nutritious vegetables, they were encouraged to "SQUASH" their unhealthy eating habits by implementing vegetables into their diet in fun and unique ways. The FCCLA members that attended these learning sessions discussed healthy recipes, learned about Georgia Organics and Georgia Grown programs, and had the opportunity to prepare and taste test both zucchini pizza bites and zucchini noodles, or "zoodles". For many students that attended these healthy, and tasty, enrichment sessions, it was their first time trying zucchini squash. Several students admitted that they tend to avoid eating vegetables and typically make unhealthy food choices. However, because of these offered FCCLA sessions and the beneficial, hands-on information that was shared, students expressed a new openness towards healthy eating and were eager to include vegetables into their meals more often by preparing fun recipes at home and using the tips and ideas that were shared through discussions for making healthy eating more fun!
